It’s date night – but what to do? Dinner and a movie is grand, and sure the local takeaway is excellent. But what about a spot by the river, glistening ripples by day and sparkling lights against inky dark skies at night? That’s romance. And it needn’t be traditional, oh no – read on!
Dance the night away
Head down to South Wharf Promenade on a Friday or Saturday night, grab a bite and head to Gasolina or Melbourne Public for some truly outstanding live tunes. Gasolina’s home to some of Melbourne’s best rockabilly gigs, and Melbourne Public boasts excellent popular music for dancing.
Sure Akachochin has some of the best Japanese food going around, but truth be told it’s the sake that puts the real finishing touches on a perfect meal, and perfect date. Ask Eriko, Mason and the team to recommend a sake, or take flight with one of their tasting options.
Like a piece of meat
Gosh no one likes being treated like a piece of meat, but if you happen to be a piece of meat, the good chefs of Meat Market are about the best place to get cooked up. Get your carnivore fix at a table by the Yarra or sit inside and take in the giant horns of the resident ram. With a respectable cellar and some keen cocktail mixers behind the bar, you might as well settle in for the night and watch the magic happen in the open kitchen.
Some like it hot
So you both think you can handle the heat? Head to BangPop and dial up the temperature with plenty of chilli – alongside some kick-ass cocktails! They’ve even put together a special Thursday date night offer – a shared dinner for just $39 or $79 with wine per couple. What a bargain!
Some nights you just want to put on some jeans and pull up a table at a really, really, great tequila bar. Luckily The Chihuahua Bar not only has plenty of tables, but oodles of bottles of tequila for you to slam with your one true love. Tacos may not be first-date food (we try to avoid anything we’re likely to end up wearing) but these ones are just so tasty we’ll make an exception.
